Amidah for Sabbath and Festivals

O Lord, open my lips, that my mouth may tell forth your praise.

I. Blessed are you, Lord our God and god of our fathers, God of Abraham, God of Isaac and God of Jacob; the great, mighty and awesome God, the most high God, who bestows steadfast love and goodness and is master of all, and remembers the good deeds of their fathers, and will in love bring a redeemer to their children for the sake of his name.

(Between Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur add:)

(Remember us for life, King who delights in life, and inscribe us in the book of the living for your sake, O God of life.)

O King, Helper, Savior, and Shield, blessed are you O Lord, Shield of Abraham.

II. You are mighty forever, O Lord, you bring to life the dead, you are mighty to save.

(Between Sukkot and Pesach add:)

(You cause the wind to blow and the rain to fall.)

You sustain the living with steadfast love, you bring the dead to life with great mercy; you support all who fall and heal the sick; you free the captives and are faithful to those who sleep in the dust. Who is like you, Lord of might? Who can be compared to you, O King? You cause death and cause life, and make your salvation flourish.

(Between Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur add:)

(Who is like you, Father of mercy. In mercy you remember your creatures for life.)

You are faithful to bring the dead to life. Blessed are you, O Lord, who raises the dead.

III. You are holy and your name is holy, and holy ones praise your name every day. Blessed are you, O Lord, holy God.

We sanctify your name in the world as they sanctify it in the highest heavens, as it is written by your prophet; "They call to each other and say:

'Holy, holy, holy is the Lord of Hosts; all the earth is full of his splendor'"

"Those across from them say:

Congregation

'Praised, praised! Be the splendor of the Lord everywhere it is manifested.'"

And in the Holy Writings it is said:

Congregation

"The Lord shall reign forever; your God, O Zion for all generations."

Leader

In every generation we will tell of your greatness, and in every age will proclaim your holiness. Your praise will certainly never depart from our lips. For you are a great and holy God and King. Blessed are you, O Lord, the holy God!

INTERMEDIATE BLESSING FOR SABBATH

IV. Moses was pleased with the gift bestowed on him, for you called him a faithful servant, you placed a glorious crown on his head when he stood before your face on the mountain of Sinai. He brought down in his hand two tablets of stone on which were written the command to observe the Sabbath, even as it is written in your Torah:

"The children of Israel shall observe the Sabbath, to practice the Sabbath throughout their generations as an everlasting covenant. It is a sign between me and the children of Israel forever, because in six days the Lord made the heavens and the earth and on the seventh day he rested and refrained from his work."

You did not give the Sabbath, Lord our God, to the other nations of the earth. It is not the heritage of those who serve idols. Pagans rejoice not in its rest. To Israel your people you gave it in love, to the descendants of Jacob whom you chose in love. May the people who set apart the seventh day, all of them, be satisfied and delighted with your goodness. You favored the seventh day and sanctified it; the desirable of days you called it, in memory of your work in creation.

Our God and God of our fathers be pleased with our rest. Set us apart by your commandments and grant us to share in your Torah. Satisfy us with your goodness; make us rejoice in your help; purify our hearts to serve you faithfully. Grant us, Lord our God, in your love and favor, your holy Sabbath as a joyous inheritance. And in it may Israel rest, those who sanctify your name. Blessed are you, O Lord, who sanctifies the Sabbath.
